The state sales tax of 6.25% is levied on gasoline and diesel less federal and state excise taxes but is not included as the revenue is not used for transportation purposes. Prior to 2000, a sales tax transfer was made to transportation. Motor carriers pay a surcharge equal to 6.25% of the previous 12 months retail price (13.4 cpg on gasoline and 13.4 cpg on diesel in 2018). Non-transportation purposes: 1.1 cpg for underground storage tank fund.
